Shoku continues here from Haven's Bar: Revenge: darknessbitesrp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=roleplay&action=display&thread=7Miri is starting here. Miri I glanced around the room i shared with other members of the orphanage. Thankfully my bed was next to a window. I slid it open and leaned out, facing the roof and high above it, the sky. Through some patchy clouds i could see the stars glimering; small dim pinpricks of light. i focused on the window sill above mine, and used that to pull myself up so i had my feet on the sill of my window. I slowly climbed up the one floor seperating me from the roof. On the roof i streched and looked around. A half moon was visible through the broken clouds, giving me some light. I didnt have enough energy tonight to go the crazy way but i did feel like a trip to the woods. I stared at the forest to my left for a moment from my spot on the roof before turning away and crossing the roof to one neighboring the orphanage. the building pressed right up against this one, and while the roof was slightly high then this one, it was easy to climb up the 5 or so feet to the next surface. i walked across the higher roof to the next one. it was a drop of only about 7 feet, best taken on a roll landing. i did such and brushed myself off as i got up. i walked to the edge facing the forest; there was a fire escape here that deposited me in an abandoned alleyway. once on the ground, i made my way through a system of alleys, staying in the shadows when i could, and darting into one when i couldnt. Thankfully with it being dim out, i hardly had any trouble staying unseen. Once i was a good ways away from the orphanage and any busy part of town, i made my way onto a sidewalk, and took off at a jog. I knew the route well as i had the past few years to learn and perfect several different paths. I took a more direct path to the forest; one of the shortest being only 2 and a half miles. Finally i reached the edge of the woods, and i slowed down. I walked in, feeling the dark shadows of the forest envelope me, like an old friend i hadnt seen in a while. I started wandering around. I breathed deeply enjoying the crisp night air. Not too warm- a crisp breeze broke the humidity. I meandered, staring at my surroundings, thinking of nothing, taking it in. oh how i missed the forest, the moss- the nighttime animals and sounds. i had been away too long. i rest my hand on a tree trunk, feeling the rough bark on my palm. i shut my eyes, enjoying the moment.

Shoku had managed to stay in the shadows on his way home. Luckily no one saw him leave the abandoned building at the edge of town. He was drained, the anger coursing through his veins being the only thing that still enabled him to take step after step. Strands of his messy silver-white hair fell into his face, but he was too tired to bother moving them from his view. Flashes of everything that had happened that night kept replaying in his head. The death of the young werewolves, his anger, the bloodlust, all the bloody vampires he ripped to shreds in order to reach that one. Eden. The image of her cold smile came into focus and Shoku dropped to his knees. Using up strength he didn't have, Shoku pounded the dirt ground screaming obscenities into the sky. He was too weak. Why did he have to be chosen as the pack leader. He was too young, not even the greatest fighter or decision maker of them all. He would only lead his new family into ruins. The kids smiling faces came into his mind once again but they were talking this time. "Shoku, where were you? Why didn't you stop the bad wolves from hurting us? You were our big brother. Why did you let Eden do all this." Their high-pitched voices kept mocking him until he screamed to the top of his lungs. His vision went black and he slowly receeded into the depths of his mind.

Miri my eyes shot open and i froze as a scream echoed through the forest. it wasnt one of fear, but one of pain and loss and confusion and anger; it also didnt sound entirely human. and it didnt cut off. it just kept going. and going. and with each second it went, i felt a new wave of cold crash over me. i made myself move, try to figure out where the sound was coming from. I took a step. and another. quicker now. it was getting louder. i made myself run, dodging trees at the last moment in the dim lighting, not bothering to go around the branches that swatted at my face, arms and legs.
the scream was starting to get quieter. was i going the wrong direction? no no that wasnt it- he was stopping (i was positive it was a male who was screaming). it was inaudiable now, but i kept running full speed. my heart was pounding. i dont know what i expected to be able to do- whatever caused him to scream like that i knew i probably couldnt fight and win, but i knew he needed someone. after nearly two minutes of running all out i almost gave up when i saw a form slumped on the ground.
I ran to him and slowed only enough so that i wouldnt crash into him. I stopped when i reached the figure and dropped to my knees onto the forest floor beside it. i could see now it was indeed a boy- he couldnt be much older than i was- and he was a mess. his clothes were tattered and torn, and they were covered in blood as was the boy. i could see a few scratches and cuts, but only just. i put my hands on on his chest, covered by the ripped shirt and lowered my head, pressing my ear against him. he was warm, and his heart was beating- it wasnt weak, but i wouldnt have called it a stong pulse either. shit, shit shit shit. i had no clue what to do. i idnt know who he was, but i had to help him somehow.
his hair was silver-gray and caked with dirt and what looked like blood? and bits of glass? what had he been up to?? the unusual colored hair was long and all over his face. i pulled it off his face and gently put my hand on his cheek. "wake up...please wake up."

Nothing was visible. Just miles upon miles of nothing but darkness, threatening to swallow the teenager whole and keep him trapped in his subconscious. He was stronger than this. Why was he still unconscious. He hadn't suffered any serious wounds, Shoku knew that for a fact, none of the blood on him was his. Hell, he was even a werewolf he's recovered more serious wounds in less than a full day. Why now was it different? How come he was trapped inside his own mind? It's because I don't want to wake up, Shoku thought. The thought echoed through out his subconscious. What reason do I have to wake up? I can end it now, I've already lost. Nothing else I can do, A new leader will just have to be chosen. "But you can't." A voice echoed through the darkness. It was his, but he wasn't the one to say it. His blood family appeared, as well as Eden. Their faces mocking him with their cruel smiles, telling him he was a filthy mutt, him and all his kind were nothing but things to dispose of.
Shoku snarled, feeling the familiar sensation he went through every time his body twisted and contorted to create the shape of a lycan. "Shut Up!" He screamed, charging after them in a senseless rage. He wouldn't let them win, if for no other reason than revenge, He wouldn't let them win.
Shoku's unconscious body twisted and turned, responding to what he was going through in his dream. His teeth became clenched, tightening his jaw, and his muscles tensed. There was a low gutteral sound coming from him, though faint, if listened to it would closely resemble a growl. His hands slowly became claws, digging into the earth and trying to rip through the soil as it if was his enemy. With a gasp, the werewolf woke up, causing his hands to go back to normal before anyone could notice.
He looked around, wondering if he was still dreaming. Looking up he noticed a small girl hovering over him. She had dark blue hair that seemed black from where he was positioned, She wasn't a wolf, she couldn't be trusted. Jumping away from the girl, he went into a battle stance. "Who are you?" Though he seemed ready to fight, his strength hadn't returned, he assumed it hadn't been that long since he passed out, but it felt like days in his mind

Miri The mysterious boy was moving, twisting and turning but still unconcious. "Wake up" I said, shaking his shoulder. I heard a low sound from him- it was too quiet to make out. I shook him again, and he froze a second later. I noticed a movement from the corner of my eye by his hands- nothing changed but there was something different from a moment ago. I focused back on the face of the boy again.
A gasp came from him as his eyes opened. He was awake! He looked at me for a few seconds, as if analyzing me. But then he jumped up faster then I would have thought possible. By the time I looked up to locate him, he was several feet away, half crouching, his eyes intent on me as if I was a danger. I realized my next moves had to be very careful or I'd scare him- and that could mean his running away, or his attacking. Funny thing is, despite the situation of me being alone in the woods with a male who for all i know could be a serial killer, I was afraid- but it was for him, not myself. Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little frightened.
I smiled a little to show I was friendly and sat back on my ankles, lifting my hands palm up at him to show I was no threat. I looked into his eyes, hoping he would see that I wasn't going to hurt him. "My name is Miri. Miri Cassil Varker. I saw you were unconscious and when I came over, you were covered in blood and glass. I wanted to make sure you were alright." I said slowly, trying to be as nonthreatening as possible- which wasn't hard. I knew my share of tricks for fighting but I had a gut feeling if it came down to it, he would win no problem.

Shoku's eyes were locked on the girl, intently watching her every move. She seemed harmless enough, but looks could always be deceiving. He watched as she smiled and sat back. The cute innocent smile didn't phase him. That was the same face the vampire always made before she went and cheesecakeed things up somehow. Miri Cassil Varker. He let the name repeat in his mind a few times. It didn't sound like the name of a werewolf hunter. Could she honestly be a regular human. She didn't smell like rotting flesh so she wasn't a vampire, or one of their familiars. He wasn't about to let his guard down, but scaring the girl wasn't going to solve anything. Dropping his fighting stance, the werewolf let out a sigh and looked at Miri. "The name's Shoku," he said, careful not to use his last name in case she might've heard rumors about the wolf pack, "Wh-why are you here? Most girls wouldn't stay around in a dark forest, watching over a hurt person covered in blood."

Miri I nodded my head slightly, absorbing his name. "shoku. alright." I decided i liked that name. Shokue. It wasn't a bad name. "I hope that wasn't a sexist joke you were trying to make." I said, smiling a little. "anyways, I'm not 'most girls'. Nighttime is the only time I've got to myself. I find the forest to be peaceful and away from all the crap of the city." my nose wrinkled slightly at the last part. "And besides- who else is going to watch over an injured person with a fresh coat of blood? I don't see any other volunteers, do you?" I asked, motioning my hands around. Hmm....perhaps that wasn't the best thing to say because now that means I've got no one who would stop him from doing anything to me. I shrugged the thought away.
"What about you, Shoku? What are you doing out here? Don't you have a family that will wonder where you are?" he flinched slightly. Shit, bad question....with the nights longer and the days shorter, many people have been missing or killed. The reasons were a dime a dozen- gang activity, paranormal activity; everyone had a theory. But I hadn't even though about that when I asked. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean...." I trailed off, not knowing what to say

Shoku let out a slight chuckle at her saying how she found the forest peaceful. Apparently she doesn't spend time here on full moons very often. He also wished to tell her that the mass amounts of blood on him wasn't even his, in the slightest. Of course, that wouldn't be a smart approach to relieving himself the girl. The last thing he needed was a frightened city girl talking about killers in the woods. There were already vampire and werewolf hunters taking patrols on this place. He was tired of killing, and was pretty sure he had already come across some of his own family. As if reading his mind, Miri brought up his family wondering about his whereabouts. Instinctively, Shoku flinched, memories of his blood family being the first to surface instead of the Argent pack. "It's fine. I think you should leave though, you don't really belong in a forest alone."

Miri I stood up, slowly though so to not be a threat. Arching an eye brow I raked him with my eyes. "And you're hardly one to talk. Besides, I know how to take care of myself- I've been on my own in the forest and city for years. Almost all of it being at night- thats the only time I can get away from everything." I heard a twig snap a ways away- I knew the area well enough to know that the noise was projected because of the shape of the land.
"But tonight probably isn't a good night for either of us to be out here alone. I live in an orphanage ever since- well I can explain later. You should come with me. At least for today? You don't have to stay if you don't want to." I paused- he seemed unsure. "If you like, I can hide you away from curious eyes, although I can't promise it'll be all that comfy." I added with a shrug.

"Listen, Miri. However peaceful you think this place is, I've seen enough happen here to know it's not that great for someone like you, someone like us." Shoku said, trying not to make it stupidly obvious that he wasn't the average teenager boy. Before he could try and walk away he heard a loud snap. To human ears it may have sounded distant but to him it seemed as if they were right next to him. He could smell the scent of garlic, a false superstition rookie hunters and crackheads believed could kill or defend them from vampires. They were probably first timers and trigger happy. If they found them they'd try to kill them both and Shoku hardly had the energy left to go into his wolf form. Trying not to add any panic or other emotional edge to his voice, Shoku decided to take the girl up on her offer. "Well, it'd be nice to have a nice place to sleep for once. Living on the streets and forest beds isn't all that comfy," Shoku said, giving a fake boyish grin. He walked up to her and grabbed her hand. "What're you waiting for? I can't wait to go to sleep for hours!"

Miri Even though his grin had a bit of a strained to it, I couldn't help but laugh a little at his eagerness for a bed. "alright, alright Shoku. Calm down some- I swear you remind me of the littlies when they can stay up watching a movie." I said this lightly but not too loud incase there was something in the shadows. I smiled up at him. "off we go" and I took off at a good pace through the woods. Now that I wasn't running full out, I dipped and dodged around branches and trees without breaking pace. He kept up fairly well- I wondered how injured he really was - or wasn't - but either way he needed a place to stay, and he seemed pretty beat. I wouldn't press him though.
I picked up speed after half a mile when we were clear from whatever had been near us before. A few times I had to look over my shoulder to make sure that he was still there- I knew how to run without snapping twigs or disturbing too many leaves but this kid- he practically floated over it all, moving soundlessly unless I strained my ears. I guess if you live out here you learn a lot. He was an interesting one.
I reminded myself a few times to slow down because even though he kept up with me, he was tired from whatever ordeal he had been through. Or at least I assumed he was. Whoever Shoku was, he was definately good at covering up. Then again- out on his own, weakness wasn't exactly a good thing to show. Even I, not entirely on my own, knew that much.
After a while - it had to be getting close to wake up even though it was still quite dark - we reached the edge of the forest. Despite being tired, I took us through an indirect route that went through many side streets and deserted alleys. If anyone saw him, they'd likely report it. Not to mention me as well- it was well past curfew. Eventually I saw the fire escape ladder, and started to climb. "We're almost there." I told him as I hoisted myself up. I waited at the top for him to join me before taking off across the roof. I had good momentum by the time I reached the 7 foot high roof edge and easily grabbed onto it, pulling myself up. I stood up and turned around to see if he needed a hand but he was already pulling himself over the edge. I raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
I lowered myself over the edge of the opposite side of the roof - it was a mere 4 foot drop, but I didnt want to wake those sleeping right below me. He followed suit. I headed over to the side facing away from the forest- there was an old bathroom on this side. It opened from the outside easily and Shoku would be able to drop down easily. I still worried about him physically even though he kept up fairly well. I leaned down and with one arm jimmied the lock open. "over here" i called softly to him and then showed him how i swung myself in. Once inside i stood aside so he had room.

Shoku followed her lead, surprised she was so easily convinced by his last second acting. Keeping up with her was as simple as walking through the city streets, she moved remarkably slow. Even as a human he could move faster than that, though he gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was doing it because he was "injured". While moving with her, he often wondered how she could possibly survive coming to dreadwood forest on a nightly basis without being torn apart, her movements, though somewhat careful, were still loud and untrained. I have to admit, she's more thoughtful about where she steps than most heavy footed residents around here, Shoku thought to himself, giving slight admiration to the human teen.
Once they reached a series of alleyways, he found himself resisting the urge to hop from one wall to the other. He was covered in, now dried, blood after all, he should be unconscious or at the very least slowed down and hurt. If it was actually his blood, he might've been.
After reaching a building he waited for Miri to busy herself with the fire escape ladder, before launching himself up to grab on to the ledge of the building and pull himself up. After dropping down to another, smaller building, He waited to see where they were headed. After seeing the girl open a window and slide in, he grabbed hold of the window and swung himself in, crouching slightly when he entered the room. The place reeked of the smell of young children, some clean, others smelling as if they hadn't showered in weeks.

Miri He swung himself in easily, and I was surprised by his ease. "I won't pry...but are you hurt? You seem to be alright, but..." I trailed off. He was definitely unconscious earlier and he had a few scratches although I had a hard time making them out now. He also was most definitely covered in blood. But he seemed ok...I shook my head.
"Never mind. Anyways, this is the top floor of the orphanage. I figure you want to stay out of the system- at least for the time being-" if he wanted in he could have it but for now, I wasn't going to force him into the prison I lived. "This bathroom is almost never used- they mostly store spare stuff up here so you should be undisturbed until the night anyways. You can sleep and I'll bring you up some food. Obviously you can wash up or whatever you want. Sorry about the smell though- can't do much about that" I chuckled a little. The smell of a bathroom wasn't all i meant- i also meant the smell of suppressed and unwanted children. Might have been my imagination or from me growing up here the last several years, but there was definitely a tinge to the air.
I shrugged. "I won't say I expect you to stay around, but if you do, then I'll come by and see you later with food, and just for company after you've rested. If not- well, Shoku, maybe we'll meet again sometime." I shot him a friendly smile. "anything you need before i go?"

"Well if you could perhaps bring me a shirt that wasn't covered in blood and filled with glass shards, I'd be highly grateful." Shoku said, staring at her with his icy blue eyes, hinting that she should take the cue to leave and go get one. He turned his back to her and crouched down in a corner, taking his destroyed shirt off and examining his wounds. Or atleast, what should have been wounds. His skin looked flawless as if he hadn't set foot in the bar at all. Shoku smiled to himself and closed his eyes, waiting for Miri to return.

OOC: I'm switching to 3rd person...if I accidentally switch to 1st, sorry. Not used to 3rd. Idk if i'm gonna stay in 3rd or not. I default 1st lol
Miri "sure." Miri said with a nod. She was almost out the door when she decided to ask if he wanted pants as well. Turning around, she saw him in a corner with his shirt off. Miri blushed a little and after a moment looked away from the bare skin on his back. oops...didnt mean to see that. She thought to herself, turning and walking out into the hall.
Supplies were generally pretty tight here- hardly anything wasted as the orphanage got very little income. It was a good thing she knew where everything was or shoku would be out of luck for clothes. Using her years of practice sneaking around, she darted down 4 flights of stairs to the ground floor and one more to get into the basement where the laundry shoots from the upper floors led. She went to a pile of the clothes that were freshy cleaned.
As she looked through some shirts she realized she didn't have much idea what size he'd wear. He was large-ish in a muscular sorta way. He wasnt very tall though, so perhaps a medium would fit him. She took a medium and a large just to make sure. Miri had no clue what to get him for pants, so grabbing him some basketball shorts and a pair of sweats, she headed back to the stairs.
With the bundle under her arms, she took the stairs 2 at a time, but paused on the first floor. It had been a long night, and whatever happened to him, he used a lot of energy. She sprinted quietly down the hall and after passing four doors took a left and found herself in the kitchen. She pulled out a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread along with a bottle of water. It wasn't much, but she could bring him some soup or cereal later on.
She heard a noise and froze- getting caught stealing clothes was bad, but some of their food when they already were tight on feeding all the little mouths they had? She couldn't get caught. A light down the hall clicked on, and after a few tense minutes, it clicked off. She breathed a sigh of relief- just someone in the bathroom probably. Being very careful, she made her way back down the hall to the stairs. Once there she sprinted up the last 4 flights to the top floor where the bathroom, and Shoku, were. "I brought you clothes and grabbed some food for you on the way up" She said as she walked around the corner in the restroom, making sure she said it quietly enough so that no one would hear her but the bathroom occupants.
