Eden finally reached Haven's. The moon had almost reached the edge of the sky, it would be day soon. She would have to find shelter before then. However, day was so brief, 6 hours only. It had been that way ever since the meteor had hit... She slipped inside the dark bar. Bits of vampire flesh littered the floor, however some had already begun to regenerate. It wasn't pretty, Shoku and done his work well. Most of them resembled blobs of pink flesh, moving slightly here and there as they grew new cells. Others were more recognizable as human-like. Grabbing a blood-stained tablecloth from the ground, Eden moved what was left of the vampires onto it. Hauling it outside she carried it to the back of the now abandoned building. There she dumped it among the trash and scattered leaves. It took her several trips to get all of the vampires. Some heaps of flesh moaned quietly as they were moved and deposited with the others. Once her work was done, Eden stepped inside one last time, picking up the same lighter Shoku had used to light the vampires on fire earlier. She dropped dry leaves and sticks upon the mass of bodies and flicked open the lighter. One of the vampires moaned louder, it was almost through regenerating. He looked at her holding the lighter. "W-why are you doing this?" He choked out. She smiled down at him, "For fun." The she dropped the lighter on the kindling. The vampires would smell the burning bodies and would come to investigate, it was like an incense. The smoke swirled thick and high behind Haven's Bar, almost glowing in the fading moonlight. Now, she thought, I wait.
As soon as night once again fell over Nightcrest the vampires came to investigate. The ones closest in the area, the ones who had smelled the smoke and blood were first to arrive on the scene. They edged warily up the dingy path and peered through the broken glass window. Soon, other joined them. Word had spread and whole hordes of vampires arrived, eager and curious to see what had happened. Eden watched from the shadows as they wondered out loud what could possibly have killed so many. Finally the vampire she wanted to talk to arrived.
Jonathon King stepped out of the crowd, flanked by several body guards. He was in charge of Nightcrest, authority to the vampires. Most of the time he sat in his mansion, enjoying the life of a businessman. However when things when horribly wrong, it was his job to put a stop to it. Jonathon entered the bar and glanced over the heap of ashes behind it, his eyes calculating. When he was done, he stepped back toward the crowd of people and called loudly, did anyone witness what occurred here last night, brothers and sisters? Everyone was silent, this was her cue. Eden stepped forward making her voice small and scared. "I did, Sir." His eyes looked her up and down, "Come forward, young one. What did you see?" Eden shuffled forward and said quietly, "He just killed them all, every one of them." "Who did?" "H-He did, all of them," She raised her voice making it more hysterical, so that everyone could hear. "He ripped them to shreds, hunks of flesh everywhere, b-blood everywhere. Then he burned them. All of them d-dead. Dead!" "Who killed them?" Jonathon asked more urgently. "T-The WEREWOLF!" screeched Eden and collapsed into tears, "I was the only one w-who escaped," she wailed, "He k-killed them all!" The crowd muttered, some looked shocked, others looked angry. "I always knew those blasted mongrels would be the death of us!" someone muttered. "Seems to me we should get them before they get us!" said another. The muttering got louder, the crowd angrier. "Silence!" yelled Jonathon. Everyone quieted. "Murder has been committed here today and we will not stand for this! However we must not act rashly, I will investigate further into this. Trust me, the werewolves will pay." The crowd cheered loudly and Eden, grinning, slipped back into the shadows. The little puppets were all playing their part. A poke here and a pull there. All the puppets dancing toward their
doom...
