Daemon waited for her response before he raced off. Instead, he got a welcoming assault and was forced to the ground. He felt his back hit the ground, hard and squirmed slightly before freezing up at the sight of seeing Eden's fangs so close to him. Aware, we'll see who's more aware. He may not have been as strong, but he had a mean streak for causing trouble especially if it was a prank. He'd teach her a lesson as well. "I don't need training to sense things. I was just hungry, I wasn't thinking. I've been a vampire for nine years I know a few things. Awareness and sensing things are abilities I'm familiar with." He got up and followed her, keeping up pace with her at all times.

The boy was a hothead. Nine years was nothing to one as old as her. She had seen whole cities built and destroyed, populations wiped out in the blink of an eye. Countless people withering and turning to ash around her, while she remained untouched by time. "Nine years, huh," she said over her shoulder, "want to know how old I am?" Before he could answer, she said, "Maybe I'll tell you when you learn some respect. But know this, little one, I have lived more than five of your lifetimes." Suddenly she stopped. Something was off. The back of her neck prickled, and Eden listened intently for one moment. There was something there, she knew there was. As quickly as it appeared though, the presence faded. Still, something was going on, and she didn't like it.

"Five of my life times huh? So it's safe to assume underneath the hot teenage girl is just a bitter old woman?" Daemon said, mockingly. No response. He had expected to be attacked again, or atleast an equally snarky remark. No, there was nothing she had went completely still. "Are you ok, Eden?"

Eden unfroze. "Be silent. Didn't you sense that?" He looked at her like she was crazy. She hissed angrily. "You have a lot to learn, young one. There is something here looking for us. We have to be careful now. I'm taking us a different route." She ducked down a side alley and began to run, ignoring the boy's expression. He wouldn't think she was crazy if they caught up to them. Abruptly the alley ended in a bricked up wall. It was new, the bricks still red compared to their brown, dirt-encrusted neighbors. She touched one with her hand and it burned terribly, her flesh sizzling. She gasped, the bricks must have been made with holy water as an ingredient! And who else would know use holy water to build a brick wall, a wall clearly made to trap them. She turned around swiftly. At the end of the alley stood several men dressed in black and carrying rifles. Canteens strapped to their waists were full of holy water she imagined. "Hunters," she spat, making it a curse. Then, she grinned broadly, showing off her sharp teeth. "This will be fun."

Daemon looked at her, confused. Before he knew it she was running off. Not knowing what else to do, he followed after her. She led them into yet another alley, one that came to a dead end. Why would she do that? Suddenly the alleyway became darker as if the street light had gone out. Daemon was partially right. A bunch of men clad in black uniforms and all wielding weapons were blocking there exits. For a second, he thought of attacking Eden, believeing she was the one pulling the strings behind this but she didn't seem to have an all too friendly look in her eye while staring them down. "Hunters". So that's what they were. he had trouble with the actual authorities, but never before with actual vampire hunters. He bared his fangs at them, trying to seem as intimidating as possible, when in reality he didn't know anything about fighting, and he no longer had the near immortal card to his advantage

"Stay close to me Daemon, got it?" Eden whispered without looking away from the men in black. "You want some tips on surviving? Don't let them hit you with those guns. There aren't normal bullets in them, they have holy runes carved into them. If you get hit in a major spot, it will kill you, no regeneration." She smiled warmly at the hunters and took a few steps toward them. "Lovely night isn't it boys?" "Shut up, leech!" one of them yelled, "Don't think you can play mind games with us!" She grinned dangerously, leaning forward as if to pounce. "Now that's no way to address a young lady, you need to learn some manners." With that she darted forward, ignoring the rifles pointed directly at her head.

Daemon watched Eden and the hunters go back and forth. He was scared of being killed and cowered behind the older vampire. However, seeing her go straight toward them, guns aimed, he couldn't help but think she was being too reckless with her life. Risking his own skin to help her, Daemon ran towards the hunters as well, jumping on to one of the brick walls and kicking off, sliding between one of their legs and pouncing on to their back, sinking his fangs in. The vampire hunter screamed in agony and slammed his back, and Daemon, into one of the walls. The exposed flesh of the vampire burned as it hit the holy water that had been splashed onto the walls. He crumpled to the ground and lay there squirming in pain. As a reward to help save Eden's life, he received a sharp kick to his stomach, knocking the wind out of him. The one he decided to attack seemed more into actions rather than words, as he pointed the barrel to Daemon's head. "Eden!"

Eden was having fun. She ducked under the men's rifles and attacked them with a fury. Eden began to dance, dealing death as she twirled, flipped, and spun. She laughed happily, the blood of her enemies raining down around her. To anyone looking in on the scene from the outside, she looked like a possessed demon, completely insane in her revelry. A true nightmare of mankind. "Eden!" She was snapped out of her trance. One of the hunters stood over Daemon with his gun pointed directly at the boy's head. The small vampire was writhing on the ground in pain, his skin sizzling from the holy water. His eyes met hers, scared and pleading. "No you DON'T!" She snarled, ferociously. Quick as lightning she was directly next to the man. He yelped and turned the gun on her, she grabbed ahold of it and using her strength, snapped it in two. He stumbled backwards, realizing he was alone as she had already killed the others. "Please d-don't kill me!" He stuttered, terror in his eyes. "Too late," she said quietly, "You mess with him," she pointed at Daemon, "then you mess with me!" Before the hunter could react, Eden slipped behind him and forming a fist, punched a hole through his chest. The man looked down in amazement at her hand sticking through him, and then fell to the ground, dead. Eden stepped over his body and crouched down next to Daemon. She put a hand on his shoulder. "Idiot," she whispered, "why didn't you stay with me? Are you OK?"

Daemon was focused on the pain, not paying attention to Eden or the other hunter she managed to kill. His body felt like it was on fire, even though only small parts of his body had been in contact with the water. Now he realized why the hunters weren't regular humans vampires eagerly went after. They were dangerous and the pain wasn't something you could easily get over. Daemon felt a cold pale hand on his shoulder and he slowly began paying attention to his surroundings once more. He nodded his head slightly, indicating that he was ok but didn't talk, waiting for the burning sensation to fade away. "It hurts, Eden." Daemon said quietly, sounding like a child asking their mother for comfort.

"It'll be OK, trust me. We'll fix you up in no time." She smiled at him. "Here," she hoisted him up into her arms. "Don't scare me like that again, understand? I thought they were going to kill you..." Christopher's dead body floated to the front of her mind and her arms tightened reflexively around Daemon's body. She wouldn't let that happen again. If it did she would no longer have the will to continue on with life. So many deaths... Eden slipped into the darkness cradling her precious bundle to her chest.

...an unnerving interest had him pushing his cheek up against the cool bricks of a building to see the last of the pair walking down the street. Their silhouettes stretched like black taffy atop the asphalt. He was left melancholy knowing he had read all the essays, but there were more in this world than the living. To be able to take up stride with the vampires and converse was something of a whim however...
