(Continued from Dreadwood Forest: Nighttime Escape) darknessbitesrp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=forest&action=display&thread=10Shoku looked out the single window in the cell like room he was trapped in. It had been a few days since he had been enslaved and forced to stay in the shamble of a place they called an orphanage. He felt maybe in some ways he deserved this, how could he return back to his home, without having avenged the fallen cubs. Shoku shook his head to rid himself of the painful lingering thoughts that threatened to tear him down mentally. Now wasn't the time to think about that, he told himself, he could feel sorry for himself later. Ever since that girl, Miri, brought him here, he felt like a caged animal. No matter how many times he tried to sneak out, he was miraculously caught. Those in charge had gotten so tired of seeing him try to escape they threw him in a smaller unused room with a makeshift bed. Even going so far as to put bars on the window. At the time, he thought it was his easy escape route. "I'm a werewolf" he had told himself proudly, thinking he could easily bend the bars to make his escape. Unfortunately as if they knew his secret, they had installed silver bars, which burned him whenever his flesh came into contact with the metal. "I need to get out of this place. I'm going crazy! If they keep me here much longer they're going to have more than just a bunch of children on their list of things to deal with." Looking at the sky, he tried to see what phase the moon was entering, though from where he stood, the clouds blocked his view from the moons light. Brushing single strands of his silver hair from his face, Shoku once again tried to pry open the silver bars keeping him away from his freedom. He wrapped his hands tightly around the metal and pulled, muscles tensing and veins throbbing. A quiet hissing sound arose from the bars, a sign that it was taking it's toll on the werewolf. Shoku growled and let go. He refused to believe he had to be stuck in the orphanage another night. Outside lights out, the place was always chaotic and filled with screaming and yelling children. It was enough to give a regular person head-splitting headaches, which only made it worse for someone like him who's hearing was nearly three times as great as the average human. Once the sun actually rose, things managed to rise to an all time high, making the place seem like living hell, no wonder the girl used the forest as her escape. The food was scarce and it seemed the little children got more food than the older ones. Worst yet the werewolf had gotten annoyingly close to Miri, who had gotten him into this in the first place. Though at times he'd wish to just be to himself the human seemed to have taken a liking to him even going as far as to check on him on a daily basis. He didn't know what he did to make her think he was friendly, but at times he wished he hadn't done whatever it was.

Miri hadn't meant for them to catch Shoku, but when she snuck off and wasn't doing her normal duties someone must've noticted and went to investigate. Feeling entirely responsible for his being caught, she vouched to help him however she could. But more than that, she wanted to help the odd boy even if he hadn't been caught. When he was moved to a smaller room with bars over the windows though, she knew the orphanage had gone too far.
Whenever she came to visit him, as he was on lockdown from his failed escape attempts and wasn't at the liberty to go anywhere for a while, he was looking outside anxiously or pacing or being generally restless. One day he seemed particularly more agitated then the past days. Closing the door behind her, Miri entered his room and sat on the edge of his bed. She couldn't quite tell his opinion of her- sometimes he seemed like he was genuinely glad to have met her, while others it seems like he almost...resented their meeting.
Miri put the jacket she was carrying under her arm on the bed. Unfolding it, she revealed an extra 2 pieces of dense bread and one package of instant oatmeal. It wasn't much, but she couldn't get her hands on any more without raising suspiscion. "I'm sorry the portions are so small. I brought what I could to help." She said with an apologetic smile. "oh and I have one more bonus."
She reached her hand into the pocket of her hand-me-down jeans. Her eyes glinted slightly mischieviously as she pulled out her fist which was closed around something. "I used to have a lockpicking set years ago and I practiced on the extra 4th floor rooms. It was found and taken but they never learned who it belonged to." she slowly opened her hand. "I've been busy while helping the kids with their activities. I found some make-shift lockpicks. Tonight, I'm going to get you out of this cell."

Shoku looked at the door as it came open. What does she want, he thought to himself, wondering how long she planned to "keep him company". When he noticed her bring in a jacket he raised his eyebrow in curiosity. Before he had time to question her, she rolled it out and he noticed the food. He realized the only reason he probably hadn't snapped on her before was the occasional things she managed that made the living hell slightly more bearable. He moved over to his bed and grabbed a piece of bread, tearing into it hungrily. When she grabbed something out of her pocket he was all but ignoring her until she mentioned lock picks. He resisted the urge to say something sarcastic and hurtful as she told him she was going to help him out of the cell she basically forced him into.

OOC: she didnt want him to get caught >.>
Miri had his attention now. Good, she thought to herself. I need him to pay attention so he doesn't get caught by the higher ups. again[/b]. "Here is the plan. We'll have to wait a few hours after lights out so everyone has a chance to settle down and sleep. Ill come and pick your door open. We can sneak out up the stairs, and to the roof. I can show you an alternate route to get down. Its not as simple as the one I showed you the first time, but at this point, I wouldn't put it past you to jump over the edge of the building roof to escape this place.." And I wouldn't blame him one bit, she thought to herself wryly.
"Anyways- I'm breaking you out tonight. So you can stop being so mopey." She teased him lightly, sliding her lock pick back into her pocket.

When he had looked up at her to pay attention to her and what he expected would be a half brained scheme, his attention was no longer into her words, but rather Miri herself. He wasn't sure what it was about her tonight. Was it her beautiful shoulder-length black-blue hair that seemed to had a wonderful soapy scent to it, or her face, the smooth flawlessness of her skin, her eyes. Maybe it was her slender yet attractive frame. Shoku didn't know and could honestly care less. The werewolf just knew that he had an unnatural desire for her. He could picture himself raising her into his arms and and taking her away. He mentally forced the graphic images playing in mind away, diverting his eyes from her. "Yeah, whatever I can't wait to get out of here." He didn't know what was going through his head. He had never been one for relationships, he found that passion ruled reason and the last thing he needed was something as useless as love clouding his judgement, the primal like rage that seemed to turn him into a walking time bomb clouded it enough.

Miri A strange look passed over his face, his eyes looking at her in a way that made her want to blush. She refused to though, and looked down, putting her attention on the one piece of bread and oatmeal sitting in her jacket. She normally could tell if he wanted her to stay for company or if he wanted to brood by himself, but right now she had absolutely no idea if she should stay until lights out or go. It was dark outside, so she wouldnt have long anyways before lights out, and then only a little bit of time before the plan went in action. Yet with the excitement for tonight and finally getting Shoku free coursing through her veins, she knew the hour and a half wait would be torturously slow in passing.
~~~ About 2 hours later, Miri was laying in her bed, doing everything she could to not twitch. Finally it was time. That time waiting was painful, and she knew it couldn't have been any better for Shoku. She slipped on a pair of army cargo shorts - with the lock pick tools in a pocket, wrapped in a rag for silence, and a black tank top. After sliding silently out of the room, she padded down the hall in her socks, carrying her shoes in her hand to avoid making more noise then absolutely necessary. She reached his door and knelt down, pulling out the rag and the tools inside.
She grabbed hairband off her wrist and tied her hair back loosely so it was out of her face. Then she got to work, sticking the pieces of thin metal and jimmying until after a few nerve wracking minutes she heard the satisfying click of a job well done.
"Not too bad for some scrap metal, eh?" she said sticking her head in, just loud enough for him to hear. "Ready to blow this pop stand?" She grinned into the room at Shoku, happy to finally be setting him free from his accidental imprisonment.
Shoku had waited until she had left his room before flopping onto his bed, devouring the rest of the food brought to him in an effort to forget about whatever false feelings were being fed into his thoughts. I don't like her, I don't like her, I don't like her. Though he planned to spend the next hour knocked out, he found himself staring at the dull, peeling ceiling thinking about the human. Maybe it's because he had gotten too used to seeing her around and leaving was making her appear in his mind as a reminder of what he was finally ridding himself of. "Yeah that has to be it," Shoku thought. His thoughts were cut off by the sound of a click that echoed in his silent room. Any other time he would've been alarmed, but he knew who it was coming into his room. Though he had made the resolve to not let her get to him this time, the moment her head popped in through the door, he felt the same hungry, craving desire to have his arms around her. Ignoring the thoughts in his head telling him to bring her into his room and lock them both in, he managed to get up and walk over to the door. By the time he had reached the door. his dark skin had darkened, showing him blushing. Coughing nervously, Shoku asked "So, are we ready to go then?"
Miri glanced into the hallway behind her, but really it was an excuse to look away from Shoku's intense stare at her. "I'm ready if you are" she said quietly. She slipped the door shut as he entered the hall. She was still carrying her shoes because for the sprint to the stairs - to minimize the chance of being seen - was quieter in socks. Once she reached the stairwell she quietly bounded up the stairs. She hadn't been out in a while and she was excited to get some fresh air. Not to mention Shoku finally would be getting his freedom back. She ignored a slight ping she felt at the thought of him leaving and not coming back- of course he wouldn't come back; why the hell would he? But she was fond of him, and she'd miss him.
Shaking the thought off, she entered the hallway at the top of the stairs. She slipped her shoes on and headed to the bathroom window- it was too much trouble to sneak back into her bedroom, so she was going to use this one instead. She opened it up and climbed onto the window sill before pulling herself onto the roof as she had many times. While she waited for Shoku she stepped farther onto the roof, closed her eyes and tilted her head to catch the wind. She lifted a hand up to pull her hair out of the loose ponytail it was in- god she missed the feeling of being free.
She felt more than heard him come up - god that boy moved silently - and she opened her eyes. She looked at the forest. Fastest way down was dangerous and stupid - and tons of fun. She sprinted across the roof the building on the side opposite the side they had come up the first time. 3...2...1....She bent down and sprung up over the edge, soaring across the empty space between the 2 buildings. She landed and rolled so she didnt hurt herself. She looked over expectantly at Shoku, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear that the wind blew in her face. Her eyes glittered in the light from the sky above, full of the light of freedom and happiness, a feeling she knew Shoku would be feeling soon if he didnt already.
Shoku followed after her, doing his best to stop staring at her, watching her every movement as if she was the only thing that was worth his time in the entire world. Shoku growled, more so out of frustration with himself than anything. He moved up the stairs quickly and silently, managing to make little to no noise the entire time. He climbed out of the window Miri had opened and watched as she let her hair out, watching it fall down to her shoulders. He waited for Miri to cross to the next building before he ran. He moved at his full speed for the first time in a long time, enjoying the sense of freedom he had. You couldn't keep a wolf caged, it just wasn't right. Not pausing like she had, Shoku leapt off of the building, landing on his feet and crouching slightly. He looked at her and made eye contact. Her hair seemed to blow slightly in the wind, added by the shine the moon light seemed to bring her eyes. She was the same girl he had known for days now, but tonight, tonight she seemed to have an undying sense of beauty to her. He looked up at the moon, trying to divert his attention away from her. The clouds were starting to fade away but only slightly, he couldn't tell what phase the moon was in. Running his hands through his unkempt hair, he decided it was finally time for him to go. As he began walking past her, something was keeping him in place, like an invisible web. Shoku turned and glanced at Miri, his blue eyes finally showing something other than dislike or indifference. Affection. "Before I go. How about one last time out in Night Crest district, me and you." Before he gave her the chance to reply he kissed her. It was gone as quickly as it came, but the effect was still there. What did I just do?! He screamed inside his head, though it seemed whatever he thought of against this relationship with the human girl, it never seemed to translate to his actions
Miri "how about one last time out in Nightcrest District, you and me?" he asked. Her eyes widened slightly as he asked this. She expected him to take off right away, not want to stick around the person who ultimately had caused his getting caged - even if it was an accident. But when their eyes connected a moment earlier, there was something in them. But this...And suddenly, there he was, leaning in and pressing his lips against hers, warm and soft. And then he was gone from her lips, but they still tingled slightly from that unexpected contact.
She blinked a few times, and resisted the urge to put her fingers to her lips, to feel where he had pressed his. "sure I," her voice sounded a little strangled. she stopped and cleared her throat, trying to regain her bearings and composure. "That sounds good" she finished lamely, smiling sheepishly. She couldn't tell if she was blushing or not, she couldn't tell if anyone else was around (even though they were on a roof top); she felt like it was all surreal, like it could have been a dream. But somehow she knew it wasn't. And...she found that she was glad it was real.
Shoku wondered how Miri would react to his actions. He had spent their entire short time of knowing each other, pushing her away and now suddenly he seemed to have taken an extreme interest in her. It confused even him. He smiled at how her voice seemed to strain and crack, and how she seemed to be at a loss for words. It was a good sign, it meant that he wasn't totally alone in his feelings for her. He grabbed her and pulled her close in a sort of embrace before swinging her onto his back. "I suggest you hold on, tightly." He walked over to the edge of the roof top and stared down at the ground. Without hesitation, without fear, he jumped over landing on the concrete on his hands and feet, with a soft thud. He waited for her to release her grip on him and looked at her. "I learned that trick from my parents, they used to be acrobats so I can do some amazing stuff." Shoku lied, trying to make up for the feat that shouldn't have been done so easily by any teenage boy. "Any where you want to go? The night is ours before I leave and you have to go back to the orphanage."
OOC: zae, for when you read this for reference, it's Osmium
Miri help on tightly, resting her head on his shoulder as he walked to the edge. She sometimes did some crazy shit - like jumping over empty space several stories up to another roof, running around at night, sometimes even freefalling a few moments before catching myself and swinging to my goal. But she had a feeling he wasn't going to do anything that sane. "Wait, you aren't-" And then he stepped off the edge. She pressed my head against him as we fell. He smelled nice...it was an earthy smell despite his being imprisoned. The landing was softer then Miri had imagine- although she had expected a bit of a splat despite Shoku seeming to know what he was doing.
He stood up from the crouch he landed in, and gave an excuse as to how he was able to do that. She rolled her eyes - that obviously couldn't have been the truth, but she wasn't about to go digging where she wasn't wanted. She chuckled though, and said "if you say so." Then she turned her mind to the question. Where to go. "Well...I can't say I really know much about what there is to do at night here." She mostly just wandered on her own. "Surprise me?" she said suddenly, in a tone with a slight teasing challenge in it. She grinned as she rested her chin on his shoulder.
Tonight was going to be a good night.
Shoku looked at her and an idea came to mind. "Well, I think you'll be quite surprised. Come on, let's go!" He grabbed Miri's hand and led her into the somewhat busy district. He did his best to move through the crowd of people they ran into, occasionally bumping into one of them and quickly apologizing. He took a turn that led away from the rest of the district and out of the heart of the city. The farther they moved from the main parts of Nightcrest district, the louder they could hear music. It started out as a soft noise, but by the time they reached their destination, it seemed loud enough to break the sound barrier and the vibrations from the music could easily be felt. "I'm now introducing you to the world of raves." Shoku said, knocking on the door. Part of the door slid open to reveal a pair of green eyes. Once the person on the inside noticed his silver hair, he immediately opened the door letting the two in.
The rave was werewolf owned. He was always invited, due to saving the alpha of the pack's son during a fight against a coven of vampires. Shoku hated coming to the place though, because it was loud, and too festive for his tastes. Tonight however he didn't seemed to mind the loudness, he actually wanted to dance and party to the sound of house music and dubstep. He didn't know what was happening to him tonight but at that point decided to stop questioning it. The place was filled with all ages from minors to those who looked as if they were due for a mid-life crisis. The smell of alcohol was very potent and smelled stronger than any drink you'd see in a human bar.
